Hypocrisy - The best of....

Death Metal

He was initially influenced by his time as a live member for Malevolent Creation and the Florida death metal scene. Finally and without getting anything, in 1990, Peter Tägtgren, influenced by groups such as Death, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Pestilence, Possessed, Venom, Kreator, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Darkthrone (first album) and his previous band Malevolent Creation, forms one of the most important groups in extreme metal. Hypocrisy, a new dark and destructive gang. His early death metal works with ambient, melodic parts and some black metal overtones did not leave anyone indifferent. His first albums, Penetralia and Osculum Obscenum, are considered by many fans as classics of the genre.

After the recording of the first few works, Magnus, then the vocalist of Hypocrisy, left the group to be the bassist and lead singer of the black metal band Dark Funeral, prompting Peter Tägtgren to become the new vocalist. The first work with the new line-up was the album “The Fourth Dimension”, being somewhat more melodic than the previous 2, but still being pure death metal. After The Fourth Dimension, they released Abducted, an album where we can find one of the songs that has characterized Hypocrisy the most, Roswell 47 and where a melodic increase is clearly noticeable, practically leaving the “old school death” of its beginnings and becoming in melodic death metal style that the following works would maintain.

Apart from changing their sound, they also changed their lyrics, the first 2 works spoke of anti-Christianity and Satanism, “The Fourth Dimension” spoke of more paranormal topics such as unsolved kidnappings, unknown dimensions and the like, from the latter, they began to speak of alien abductions.
